Summer Sports Keep Cheshire Moving

Recreation, Competition, and Community Shine Across Town

⚾ Adult Men's Softball

 

Weeknights at Cheshire Park continue to be filled with the sounds of bats cracking and friendly competition as the Cheshire Men's Softball League enters the heart of its summer schedule.

Modified Pitch and Slow Pitch divisions feature familiar local teams including:

  • Sloper Sluggers

  • M&M Land Services

  • Allstate

  • Cobra Automotive

  • Bandoleros

  • DW Gem Services

The league remains one of Cheshire's longest-running adult recreational traditions.

Summer never really slows soccer in Cheshire.

Adult pickup games continue throughout the week, while the Cheshire Soccer Club is preparing for another busy fall recreational season. Summer conditioning programs and specialized training camps help young athletes prepare for school and club competition.

⚾ American Legion & Youth Baseball

The "Boys of Summer" continue taking the field at McNamara Legion Field as American Legion Baseball showcases many of Cheshire's top high school players.

Meanwhile, Cheshire Youth Baseball continues to experience strong participation. One recent highlight came when the Cheshire Majors All-Stars earned an exciting 8–6 walk-off victory over Milford, highlighted by Tyler Kobylanski's dramatic home run.

Golf enthusiasts are taking advantage of regional instruction programs and technology-based practice through facilities offering TopTracer Range technology, giving players opportunities to improve their swing throughout the summer.

Cheshire-Prospect Regional Chamber of Commerce.png This September, the Chamber, in collaboration with the Town of Cheshire, will bring the community together to support our local businesses, crafters, farms, and local non-profits at the 2026 Fall Festival. The celebration begins on “Food Truck Friday”, September 18th, and continues Saturday, September 19th on the Great Lawn at Bartlem Park, in the heart of our town.

On Friday, visitors can expect a variety of food trucks and entertainment throughout the evening. Saturday, September 19th, promises to be a beautiful day filled with booths on display, food trucks, performances and demonstrations. Come walk the field and see what our local businesses, crafters, and vendors have to offer.

In the evening, you will find musical performances on the main stage. Everyone will enjoy the Kiwanis carnival in the parking lot. Be sure to stop by our Cheshire Chamber of Commerce tent and introduce yourself. Come spend the weekend with us and see eve
Bridge The Spectrum Beach Day

Join us for a fun-filled day at Hammonasset Beach on Thursday, August 6, 2026!

We’ll meet at 8:30 AM at the Park & Ride, 2085 Waterbury Rd., Cheshire, CT, where transportation will be provided to and from the beach.

Lunch is included with your registration and includes sandwiches, chips, and soda.

Cost: $20 per person
Ages: 18+ only
Limit: 20 participants

Please bring: A beach towel, sunscreen, swimsuit (if you’d like to swim), and any spending money for snacks or souvenirs.

Transportation Waiver: Participants riding with Bridge The Spectrum must sign a transportation waiver before departure. Anyone who prefers not to sign the waiver is welcome to attend but must provide their own transportation.

What a wonderful way to start the Fourth of July!
This morning's Declaration Celebration at Bartlem Park was everything that makes Cheshire such a special place to call home. From the horse and rider arriving to announce that the Declaration of Independence had been signed, to the patriotic readings, music, and stories from our nation's founding, it truly felt like history came alive.

Cheshire's summer sports scene is in full swing for the 2026 season, driven by competitive adult leagues, town athletic clubs, and youth programs managed by the Cheshire Parks & Recreation Department. Activity is heavily centered at primary town spaces including Bartlem Park, Cheshire Park, and the Harmon Leonard Jr. Youth Center. [1, 2, 3, 4]

 

Adult Sports Leagues & Recaps

  • Men's Softball: The Cheshire Men’s Softball League is actively playing its summer season with both Modified Pitch and Slow Pitch divisions. Games are held weeknights at Cheshire Park. Early July matchups feature local squads like Sloper Sluggers, M&M Land Services, Allstate, Cobra Automotive, Bandoleros, and DW Gem Services. [1, 2]

For 20 years, Lederer served as the definitive voice of town athletics as the Sports Editor and Reporter for The Cheshire Herald and the R-J Media Group. Taking the helm in 2003, he spent two decades turning game recaps into a shared community history. He built deep connections with generations of local athletes, coaches, and families along the way.

Now, Lederer is turning that unmatched local experience into an independent media venture. Cheshire Sports Media continues his lifelong commitment to youth and high school sports.
